WATCH: Meltdown vs Shutdown
In this video I explain what meltdown and shutdown are including the similarities, the differences, why they occur and how we can support a child during either meltdown or shutdown. Both meltdown and shutdown are common amongst children and young people on the autistic spectrum, who struggle with emotional regulation or who have experienced trauma.
LISTEN: School Transition for Neurodivergent Students
In this episode of the Pooky Ponders Podcast, I delve into the unique challenges and triumphs faced by neurodivergent students transitioning to new schools. With a focus on practical and empathetic approaches, I share insights into developing self-awareness, navigating complex school rules, mastering time management, and more.

READ: The A-Z of Trauma-Informed Teaching
Part one of this book is an overview of trauma, how it impacts children, what we might see in the classroom and general ideas for support. Part two breaks down, alphabetically, a huge list of behaviours or challenges we might observe in our students. For each, we are provided with some explanation of what we might observe and why and then practical ideas for supporting. Very comprehensive and easy to dip into for just what you need. Highly recommended. (Link to buy)
SMILE: Elbow Update
The physio for my dislocated elbow continues. As you’ll see from this video on instagram I’ve now reached the dizzying heights of being able to hold a toothbrush. I cannot, however, reach my mouth with it 🤣
