This week I’ve been thinking about what’s underneath the behaviours we see and what changes when we pause long enough to get curious instead of rushing to fix.
From behaviour reframes to a video reminder that just being there matters more than getting it right, everything I’ve shared leans into compassion over control, and understanding over assumption.
There’s also a brilliant book recommendation, a carousel on special interests, and a photo of me (and my tandem) in the actual sea. Because why not.
As always, everything below is free to access and share. I hope it helps you feel supported in the work you’re doing and reminded that you’re doing better than you think.
PRESENT: Understanding Behaviour
These are the slides from a recent keynote all about what’s really going on beneath children’s behaviour and how we can respond in ways that build trust, not tension.
If behaviour is communication, then this is about tuning in, slowing down, and becoming the safe, steady grown-up they need.
Think connection over correction. Curiosity over control.

DOWNLOAD: Reframing Behaviour
Some behaviours get labelled as “bad” when really, they’re a sign a child is struggling. This simple download looks at what might be going on beneath the surface and how we can respond in ways that help, not harm.
It’s designed to be easy to use, quick to digest, and helpful in the heat of the moment. Good for classrooms, staffrooms, or anywhere behaviour conversations happen.
WATCH: You Don’t Have to Be Perfect
This one’s a gentle reminder for anyone supporting children who are struggling: you don’t have to be perfect, just present.
In this short video, I share six things that matter far more than getting it “right,” especially when it comes to supporting anxious or neurodivergent learners.
If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re doing enough, this is for you (it’s also for me…)
READ: Becoming Sensory Aware
This is an essential read for anyone who wants to understand how sensory needs affect learning, behaviour, and wellbeing and what we can actually do about it. It’s incredibly practical, rooted in real experience, and packed with examples, tools, and ideas you can apply straight away.
Whether you’re new to sensory thinking or looking to embed it more deeply across your setting, this book meets you where you are and supports you to go further.
It’s thoughtful, thorough, and genuinely useful – just… maybe don’t read it all in one go unless you’ve got strong arms (it’s MASSIVE!)
UNDERSTAND: Why Special Interests Matter
Special interests aren’t just quirky hobbies, they’re lifelines. For many neurodivergent people, these passions bring calm, joy, connection, and a sense of self. This explainer lays out why they matter so much, what to never do, and how we can support and celebrate the spark they bring.
SMILE: Ooops…
This week’s smile? Me, ankle-deep in the sea on the back of the tandem after riding over a mile along the most beautiful sandy beach, only to run out of land entirely.
Turns out, bikes aren’t boats. Who knew?
Here’s to spontaneous seaside detours, sand in your socks, and adventures that end with laughter (and soggy socks). We’re cycling to France this weekend - wish us luck getting back in one piece…
